Pericles
Pericles

Oil on board (31.5 x 24 inches, unframed)

Pericles stands on his ship, in a stormy sea. He has been told his wife (Thaisa) has died in childbirth and he is grieving for this supposed death; but don't worry, she lives. She has been placed in a makeshift coffin and lowered into the sea. Immediately behind Pericles is his newly born daughter (Marina), so named because she was born aboard the ship. Beyond the raging storm there is sunshine bathing Ephesus, where Thaisa’s body is washed ashore and revived. Ultimately, all three are reunited and there is a happy ever-after.
Rodolph Fonty and I are delighted to present this painting, which was inspired by seeing a performance at the Swan Theatre in Stratford, by the RSC in the August of 2024.
